Mountfitchet Castle

Key Stage One had the opportunity to visit Mountfitchet Castle which was an Iron Age hill fort. It was also a Roman signals fort and later a Saxon and Viking settlement before being attacked in 1066 by William the Conqueror who built a wooden Motte and Bailey castle. The children got to see and compare how civilisation has changed since 1066.
