This week in Holly and Cherry class, as part of our 'Animals' theme, we had a special visit from Spurs the tortoise. He is Mrs. Bosley's family pet. The children learnt that his favourite food is strawberries - but he also really likes tomatoes, dandelions and salad. Mrs. Bosley sprinkles calcium powder onto his food to help keep his shell hard and healthy. He is five years old (like the children in Holly and Cherry class!) Spurs lives in a vivarium which has a heat lamp. Once Spurs felt comfortable and settled around the children, we were really surprised how fast he could move!! He stood up on his claws as he walked. In his natural habitat he would use his claws to dig a hole to allow him to cool down.
