Caterpillars, Chrysalides and Butterflies!

As part of our 'Becoming Scientists' theme this term we have been very excited to receive some caterpillars in the post. Over the next 7-10 days they will grow up to ten times their original size! Then they hang upside down, shed their skin and become chrysalides. After 2 -3 days they should be hardened inside the chrysalides, then we will move them into their butterfly net and watch and wait for the butterflies to emerge after 7-14 days. We are all very excited about this process in reception class and have been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar in preparation. This is giving the children inspiration to have a go at writing parts of the story themselves.
