Further Details on Parent Mail.
We try very hard to keep parents regularly informed about what’s going on at the school, however, sending paper letters home can be rather ‘hit and miss’ with letters often going astray on the way!
We are also increasingly aware of the substantial cost and environmental impact associated with the amount of paper and photocopying involved. As you know we have already started to use email to distribute our school newsletters.
To help improve these areas further we have decided to use a service called ParentMail®, which is used by over 2,500 schools across the UK to communicate with parents by email and text message.
ParentMail will be beneficial to you because:
- Messages will get to you reliably.
- We can send messages directly to mums and dads at the same time.
- You will quickly know about important or urgent messages.
- We can tell you more about what’s going on at the school.
- You can make payments via ParentMail for school meals, educational trips, uniform and many other items. This is the preferred method of payment for the school.
To use ParentMail® we need to provide you with a code to register on their site. Please do not hesitate to contact the school Reception if you need any assistance with registering and using ParentMail and we will be more than happy to take you through the process step by step.
Please be assured that ParentMail® is registered with the Data Protection Registrar and guarantees that all information you provide will be kept private and will not be passed on to any other organisation.
Important: Email messages will be sent from email@example.com. Please add this address to your email address books (or approved sender list) to prevent messages from being blocked by your SPAM/JUNK filters.
Further details on Children Travelling Independently To School.
From September 2012 we have given parents of Year 5 and 6 children the option to choose whether they wish their children to walk to and from school.
You might consider allowing them to walk to school on occasions or on a more regular basis. You may even consider a mixture of walking in the morning and collecting them in the evening. You will of course need to make your own risk assessments to aid your decision on this matter.
The school must be informed if you decide to allow your child to walk to and from the school. A permission form will be attached to this letter which provides a weekly chart for you to tick against the days you wish your child to walk independently to or/and from school. If your child has permission to walk home after school we can also release them at the end of the school day to walk home.
Important: You must complete a new form every time the pattern changes.
Forms will always be available from Reception. The Admin Team will hold a record of any pattern of walking to school that you agree with your child. In this way if a child does not appear at school in the morning and we have received no call from you to say that they are absent through an illness, one of our Admin Team will phone you immediately.
Any changes that occur last minute must be reported to Reception by phone before 4pm the evening before, or a message must be left on the school answer phone before 8.30am on the day in question.
Prior to any walking to school we suggest that you walk the route with your child so they get accustomed to it and any associated road safety issues, particularly the horses. In addition, the Teachers for Years 5 and 6 will be teaching personal safety in school to raise awareness.
Please also note the following school policy:
- No child should be walking to and from school without a permission form signed before hand from their parents.
- No Year 5 or Year 6 child should be responsible for a younger sibling. All younger siblings must be accompanied to and from school by an adult.
Some parents have requested the option for their child to travel by Public Transport. Please note the same conditions apply and a ‘Permission to Travel on Public Transport’ form can be requested from Reception.
Finally please remember to update your latest emergency contact names and numbers on the Permission form.
